The city of Münster consulted FlessnerSchmitz on how to improve the international awareness of Germany’s ‘cycling capital’. Considering the 10th anniversary of the annual Münsterland Giro and the upgraded HC-status of the race in 2015, we proposed the city as a prospective host of the Tour de France. We aimed for welcoming back the Tour de France in Germany. We created the initial presentation, facilitated multiple meetings of the city officials with the Tour de France organizers and helped to spread the buzz. We conceptualized a potential Grand Depart in Münster and met with stakeholders to prepare a bid. Though the city counsel voted against applying for a Tour de France start, Münster’s public interest also prepared the ground for a renewed interest in the Tour de France in other German cities.
